Deep Tuft Sofa (1972) – a sumptuous sectional sofa with plump, tufted cubes accessible in 3 basic units.

Harvey Probber was a prolific and largely self-taught designer, maker, and artist that introduced Americans to sectional, modular seating in the 1940’s. Throughout a career that spanned effectively over 4 decades, Probber produced substantive contributions to the improvement of new forms and technologies in the furnishings sector. He sold his first design to the Superior Upholstery Organization when he was just 16 and 6 years later established his personal firm, Harvey Probber, Inc. Before his 30th birthday, his sling chair and nuclear seating had been featured in a “Good Design” exhibition at the MoMA.

Probber was admired for his sleek types, finely crafted particulars and luxurious finishes. Although mainly identified as a designer of sophisticated, residential furniture, his company eventually made the transition to office furnishings, applying the notion of modularity to the booming contract market place. Given that selling his business in 1986, Probber’s styles have turn out to be highly prized collector’s items on auction websites and vintage shops about the globe. By means of M2L, Probber’s iconic furnishings styles will once again grow to be accessible to the North American marketplace.

“Harvey Probber is an American icon who has earned his spot in the history of contemporary design and style in North America. He is generally credited with introducing the idea of developing furnishings into modules and can as a result be seen as the father of modularity.” says Michael Manes, Founder and President of M2L. “As Harvey would say, ‘the true test of wonderful design and style is time’ and I wholeheartedly agree. For more than 20 years, M2L’s objective has been to present the A&D community with fresh, timeless and genuine design. The introduction of Harvey Probber by M2L BRAND furthers this mission.”
